Summary

A major oil leak turned into a lesson in packaging and serviceability on a modern turbocharged car. The repair required lowering the front subframe, careful reassembly, and correct torque procedures.

The problem

A significant oil leak traced to the oil pan gasket. The dealership quoted over $600.

Why it is not a simple gasket job

On this chassis the oil pan is not accessible without dropping the subframe. That turns a straightforward gasket replacement into a job requiring careful sequencing, correct torque on reassembly, and attention to a modern turbocharged engine that is far less tolerant of approximation than an older motor.

The outcome

Done for roughly $150 in parts. The saving is the least interesting part — the useful outcome was learning how much of a dealership labour quote is access rather than difficulty, and that the difference is available to anyone willing to read the procedure carefully and work slowly.
